New standards ahead

As you may be aware in April 2010, under EU Legislation all manufacturers had to take measures under the EU’s Energy Related Products (ErP) Directive and cease production of standard halo phosphate tubes, in favour of more energy efficient replacements. Back in 2009 the halo phosphate tubes were downgraded from an energy rating A to B, making them less energy efficient. The standard tubes have now been replaced by tri-phosphate tubes which are energy rated A and have up to twice the life.

However all this comes at a price. In 2010 on average, the tri-phosphate tube was more than twice the price of the halo phosphate tube, which would have been very hard to take on board. With this in mind , smp Autobulbs Ltd decided to stock on average 12 months worth of the halo phosphate tube, and held the price of this product whilst stocks lasted. We took this action to help our customers through the current economic climate which we found ourselves in at that time. We had hoped by the middle of 2011 the storm would have past and that everyone would be in a much stronger position. Unfortunately the climate has not recovered as quickly as predicted.

Due to the new EU Legislation and compliance you will now need to start making the change to the new product.

What to do next?

The new product will simply replace your existing tubes and will work on your old fittings. The only change you may want to set up new part numbers on your system as the new product will have a different product code.
